Every last Thursday of the month we organise a special Theme Day. These Thursdays the gardens are open from 10.00 - 17.00.

Themes day out of the normal scheme
After the winter season it is now time to remove old and dead material from the garden and to start the pruning. It will be explained why some activities should be done now or later. Attention will be paid to the various plants that bloom so beautifully, sometimes even concealed under the decaying plants. For example Christmas roses are full in bloom now. However, what becomes of these plants during the season?

Themes day out of the normal scheme.
Bulbs of every kind. Many narcissus in many colours and sizes, some smelling. What kind of bulbs are available and how does one use them in the garden. The new trend is to collect spring by putting the bulbs in crates and pots. Rita van der Zalm of "Kwekerij van Verwilderingsbollen" will be there to give you information in the field of bulbs. This and other pre summer flowers will be today's topics.
Tours 11.30 and 14.00 o'clock!
Most shade-loving varieties belong to the forest plants. That is why they bloom very early or sometimes very late in the season. Attention will be paid to combinations of trees, shrubs and fixed plants, the building of a shade border, forest garden and/or peat garden. Even the rock garden is very attractive during this period.
Are you wondering how to create a burst of floral colour before the Summer holidays begin? In the Kijktuinen a border was composed with flowers and plants that bloom in this pre-summer season. The following themes are on exhibit: combinations, promotion of after blooming, how does it look for the rest of the year. Attention will also be paid to ornamental onion bulbs, of which about 15 to 20 species are represented in the garden. As last year, Rita van der Zalm of "Kwekerij van Verwilderingsbollen" will be present to give information about bulbs.
The garden of roses, that goes through the height of the flowering state in this period, is central in the end of June. We hope the experts of the Rose botanic company 'De Wilde' will be present to answer all your questions. In any case the Dutch Roses Association will be represented.
July is the peak of the flowering period of the fixed plants borders. In cooperation with garden lover and greenness author Wim Oudshoorn, attention will be paid to assortment, the advancement of borders, colour schemes, background and combinations with other plants.
Of course we want our gardens to bloom the entire year-round. In the Kijktuinen a border of plants has been composed of which the flowering period takes place in the Fall. Many of these plants bloom until the frost.
September: the grass gardens at their best! In the Kijktuinen we especially created a garden of grasses in which we have every variety you may find in the Netherlands. In addition, you will see most of the winter-hardy bamboos. Attention will also be paid to the usage of grasses in borders, under trees, etc.
Now we will pay attention to pruning and covering all kinds of plants, like treeds, roses, shrubs, fixed plants and grasses. What must be done and what is not necessary? We will also discuss images of winter.
